Visit Krabi - Locally known as the location of the Graveyard of Shells (fossil beds near the sea) Krabi also has nice beaches and an interesting botanical garden. The beaches in Krabi (Raylee Beach, Aonang Beach) are crowded in winter as are the beautiful nearby Phi Phi Islands (Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Leh) located about 40 mi/60 km off the coast that are currently (and unfortunately) being overdeveloped for tourism. Easily accessible by boat from Krabi the Phi Phis have almost deserted white-sand beaches and green cliffs jutting from the water. More...

Shopping Krabi

Shopping in Krabi for many is an exciting and pleasurable experience. Whether you are shopping for a suit or bargain hunting, looking for that extra special 'something' for someone special back home whatever it is, shopping in Thailand can be fun.

Street vendors often seem to be on every street corner showing you their goods (with a calculator in one hand) from silk scarves, hammocks and sarongs to laser pens etc. If you are interested in any of the wares you find, then it is time to start bargaining, If you are not interested in what is on offer, simply smile and continue on your way.

Eating and Drinking  Krabi

Food is everywhere you look, from mobile motorcycle and pushcart vendors to streetside stalls and markets, as well as great selection of small eateries, outdoor cafes and fancy restaurants – Krabi has them all!
Southern Thai cuisine is slightly different from the Central, North and North-East styles of cooking. There are many more curries, reflecting a Malaysian and Indian influence in the culture. In Krabi restaurants, dishes include the must-try massaman, a fragrant saffron-coloured curry with peanuts and sweet potatoes; the hot and sour kaeng som, fish in a tamarind-laced broth; the lightly-spiced noodle dish, khanom jin; and the Thai-Muslim version of a chicken biryani, khao mok gai.

Sports & Activities Krabi

Krabi has a wide range of activities and sports to suit every age and lifestyle: most of them are outdoor pursuits such as diving, rock climbing, swimming, snorkelling, sea-kayaking and golf. You can also explore the region on a jungle trek, a bicycle tour or on the back of an elephant. You’ll also find spectator sports like Thai boxing and takraw, a skillful game that involves keeping a wicker ball up in the air - it’s harder than it sounds!

Golf - There is one golf course in Krabi, Pakasai Country Club, located around 40km south of Krabi Town in Neua Klong district. It is owned by the local electricity board and is rated quite highly by local golfers, who enjoy the challenge of its tricky fairways and fast undulating greens, in slightly hilly terrain.

KRABI - Locally known as the location of the Graveyard of Shells (fossil beds near the sea) Krabi also has nice beaches and an interesting botanical garden.

Phi Phi Don is a popular hangout for the yachting crowd but it’s still an enjoyable place to hang out with good food and cheap bungalows but these are becoming less affordable for the travelers wishing to budget it seems the interest is for package tours. Have a water-buffalo steak while there and dive the reefs—although some have been destroyed there are some unspoiled areas remaining.
Phi Phi Leh has some interesting caves worth exploring. The caves many of which contain ancient paintings are home to sea swallows. Local people climb to the tops of these huge caves on spindly bamboo poles to harvest the birds’ nests that are used in bird’s-nest soup. Ko Phi Phi Leh was the backdrop for the 2000 movie The Beach; this is the Maya Bay - beautifully framed by limestone cliffs. The big drawback: it attracts hundreds of visitors every day.

Located approximately 814 kilometers from Bangkok is Krabi Province, one of most attractive destinations in southern Thailand. Encompassing an area of 4,708 square kilometers, the western border of Krabi is the Andaman Sea, the northern borders are Surat Thani and Phang-nga Provinces, the southern borders are Trang Province and the Andaman Sea and the eastern borders are Nakhon Si Thammarat and Trang Provinces. Krabi is an ideal getaway destination teeming with natural attractions including white sandy beaches, fascinating coral reefs, numerous large and small islands and verdant forests with caves and waterfalls.

‘Krabi' the name is a derivative of the word ‘Lumphi', the name of a local tree. The island is an idyllic haven rich with natural attractions such as tranquil beaches, fascinating coral reefs, lush forests and a number of beautiful surrounding islands. The island boasts a multitude of attraction, regardless of your interests. Here you'll find world class diving and snorkeling, canoeing and kayaking, you can trek to the summit of an imposing mountain, breathtaking waterfalls or lose yourself in any of the mysterious caves. No traveler should miss the spectacular Ao Nang or Hat Rai Le beaches.

Ao Nang is home to a phenomenal 83 small islands, and it is divided into 3 beautiful beaches East Rai Le, West Rai Le and Tham Phra Nang. The village has recently emerged as a 5-star tourist attraction, home to a number of 5 star hotels and boutique resorts. This is a great place to stay as activities such as sightseeing by canoe along the beachfront or the nearby mangrove forests, or snorkeling in semi-submerged caves are all just at tip of your fingers.

Krabi's topography is mostly mountains and highlands separated by plains in some parts. Flowing through Krabi City to the Andaman Sea at Pak Nam Sub-district is Maenam Krabi which is 5 kilometers in length. In addition, there are several canals originating from the province's highest mountain range, Khao Phanom Bencha including Khlong Pakasai, Khlong Krabi Yai and Khlong Krabi Noi. Lush mangrove forests line the canals and the banks of Maenam Krabi particularly before it empties into the Andaman Sea. The provinces sandy soil conditions are suitable for growing various agricultural products, particularly rubber trees, palms, coconuts, cashew nuts and coffee.

Due to the influence of the tropical monsoon, there are only two seasons in Krabi; the hot season from January to April and the rainy season from May to December. Temperatures range between 17 °C and 37 °C.

Krabi is administratively divided into 8 Amphoes (Districts): Amphoe Mueang, Khao Phanom, Khlong Thom, Plai Phraya, Ko Lanta, Ao Luek, Lam Thap, and Nuea Khlong. The provinces jurisdiction covers not only in-land districts and sub-districts, but also extends to more than 130 large and small islands including the world famous Phi Phi Islands.

In addition, Krabi is the location of two world class beaches Ao Nang and Hat Rai Le which offer numerous diving trips, restaurants, shops etc. Additional attractions in the province are stunning limestone cliffs and rock formations which make it a heaven for rock climbers and a National Park located approximately 40 kilometers outside of town with lakes, caves and spectacular natural scenery.
